dr. J. (Joris) Melman

Joris studied political science and philosophy in Amsterdam, Istanbul, and Leiden, and earned his PhD from the ARENA Centre for European Studies in Oslo with a dissertation on the legitimacy of the euro. After completing his PhD, he worked at Studio Europa Maastricht, where he conducted research on European identity. He has also worked in policy advisory roles, including as a visiting fellow at Bruegel and as a policy advisor at Maastricht University. He regularly writes for media outlets such as NRC, De Correspondent, Trouw, and De Groene Amsterdammer, and is currently working on a book to be published by De Bezige Bij. Joris will be working on the Grijze Zone project.
