Andrea Evers (1967 - deceased August 4th 2025) was appointed a member of the WRR on January 1st, 2024. As a professor of Health Psychology, she was associated with Leiden University and as a Medical Delta professor of Healthy Society at TU Delft and Erasmus University. Her research focused on psychological factors in physical conditions, placebo effects, eHealth, personalized treatments, prevention, and chronic/stress-related complaints.
Andrea Evers graduated in 1994 with a degree in psychology specializing in behavior change and clinical psychology from the University of Amsterdam and Bielefeld University. She then completed her PhD trajectory and training to become a clinical psychologist and psychotherapist at Radboud University Nijmegen. In 2003, she earned her doctorate cum laude on research into psychological determinants and treatment of chronic physical conditions. Her research particularly focused on the influence of psychological factors on physical complaints and conditions.
In 2011, Evers was appointed Professor of Psychology of Somatic Disorders at Radboud University. Two years later, she became a professor of health psychology in Leiden. In 2019, she was elected a member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) and in 2020 as a member of the Royal Holland Society of Sciences (KHMW).
Evers received several grants for her research from, among others, the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (such as Veni-Vidi-Vici), various health funds (such as the Heart Foundation, Kidney Foundation, Diabetes Fund, Rheumatism Fund), the European Research Council, and the Stevin Award for her scientific research with societal impact. With this last funding, she promoted interdisciplinary research that connects fundamental science with clinical applications.
