Work and income following mass redundancy

On Tuesday, 13 January 2009 the WRR presented the Dutch Minister of Social Affairs and Employment, Piet Hein Donner, with the investigation report Work and Income Following Mass Redundancy (Werk en inkomsten na massaontslag). This is a preliminary study carried out jointly by the Netherlands Scientific Council for Government Policy (WRR) and Statistics Netherlands (CBS).

Issues of redundancy

Throughout Anton Hemerijck (WRR director), Jules Theeuwes (general director of the economic research agency SEO and former WRR Council member) and Michiel Vergeer (economist at CBS) discussed the issues of redundancy and job security in the present economic climate. There was also a debate between experts and with the floor, led by Yvonne Zonderop.

Research

The research for Work and Income Following Mass Redundancy was carried out jointly by the WRR and CBS on the basis of records from CBS's Social and Statistical Database (SSB). This data enabled the monitoring of employees who had lost their jobs in the period 2001-2002 following mass redundancies by a large company for a period of three years. The presentation took place on Tuesday, 13 January 2009 at 16.00 hrs at International Press Centre Nieuwspoort, Wandelganger I, Lange Poten 10, The Hague.
