Presentation of WRR report ‘Finance and Society: Restoring the Balance’
The WRR has this afternoon presented its report ‘Finance and Society: Restoring the Balance’ (Samenleving en financiële sector in evenwicht) to the Dutch Minister of Finance, Jeroen Dijsselbloem.
In the report, the WRR puts forward strategies for achieving a more productive balance between society and the financial sector. The Council proposes amendments to socioeconomic policy which will make society less dependent on imbalances in the financial sphere. This is all the more important because socioeconomic policy falls within the national sphere of influence. The Council also advocates a more robust financial system which supports economic development and enhances society’s resilience.
First reactions
The first response to the report following the presentation came from Hans de Boer, president of the Confederation of Netherlands Industry and Employers (VNO-NCW). He was followed by Maurice Limmen, chairman of the trade union federation CNV Vakcentrale, Jaap Smit, King’s Commissioner for the Province of Zuid-Holland, and WRR Council member Marianne de Visser.
