Roundtable with the Finnish Academy of Science and Letters
On 6 September 2022 the WRR held a roundtable workshop on strategic science based policy advice. The occasion was the visit by Jaakko Kuosmanen of the Finnish Academy of Science and Letters. Kuosmanen presented lessons of an experiment that involved using scientific red teams within the Prime Minister’s Office during the COVID-19 crisis. Thereafter ideas and best practices were shared.
This roundtable followed a roundtable workshop in 2019 on the Sofi-project, an initiative on building a next generation scientific advisory system in Finland. Sofi aimed at promoting dialogue between researchers and decision-makers and, among other things, it developed two operating models: scientific red teams (interactive and iterative science advice dialogues for complex policy issues) and a phenomenon map.
