Scope for Growth. Threats to and opportunities for the Dutch economy over the next ten years

The technological and economic structure of the Netherlands does not prohibit the elimination of the existing unemployment and the deployment of the expanding workforce, while the economy simultaneously grows by more than 4% a year, the WRR says in its report Scope for growth. Threats to and opportunities for the Dutch economy over the next ten years (Report no. 29, 1987).

Conditions

An important condition is that the government and the social partners dare to take more risks. Economic growth will depend on an increase in the level of investment, including investments to benefit the environment. Exports would also have to grow by 5% to 6% annually.

Sustainable growth of prosperity

In the report the WRR investigates the conditions under which the Netherlands can again achieve sustained growth of prosperity, not only in terms of higher incomes, but also meeting the objectives for employment, productivity and the environment. The emphasis in the report is on investigating the potential obstacles to growth and identifying structural solutions that could remove them.
